Matia Lule Speaks Out on “Mass Exodus” of Players at Express

Following the departure of Express FC star players; Simon Sserunkuma, Mahad Kakooza Yaya, Mukasa Musa and Allan Kyambadde (on loan from Vipers) to the club’s greatest rival SC Villa, much has been said and many theories have been created about the same.

Word making rounds has indicated that the departure of the players is “an engineered move by Coach Matia Lule to completely sweep away those left behind by former coach Wasswa Bbossa (now at Villa).

Speaking to ChimpReports on Wednesday, Lule said; “those are just created rumours”

“I believe for the players who departed, it was their choice. Everyone has what he is looking for,” he said.

It should remembered that in the first half of the season, just a month after his appointment as Express FC manager, Lule axed 10 players including those who were guaranteed starters under Bbosa’s regime.

The players included Yafeesi Mubiru, John Ssemazi, Rogers Lukwiya, Mohamed Kayongo, Bob Kasozi, Ivan Mutumba, Ali Kiggundu, Isaac Sserunkuuma, Richard Kigozi and Paddy Tebusweke.

Lule 39, signed a 3 year contract with Express FC on November 6, 2016, replacing Wasswa Bbosa who was sacked after a poor run for the Wankulukuku based side.

At Express FC, during the concluded 2016/2017 league season, Lule won 8 of the 20 league matches, drawing 6 and losing the other 6, collecting 30 points from a possible 60 as the club finished 6th with 44 points.
