A 40 year old man has been arrested in Kabale for allegedly selling a heifer, viagra his wife received under Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) program; a UPDF led initiative providing farming support in the coordination with the National Agricultural Advisory Services -NAADS.
The suspect Vincent Turyeingana alias Kachwekano is a resident of Kibingwe cell, Ryakarimira Town Council in Kabale District.
Two months ago, Turyeingana is said to have sold the heifer estimated at 1.8 million shillings. His wife, Adellah Aheisibwe received the cow from OWC mid last year.
Aheisibwe says that the husband sold the heifer to a farmer only identified as Kezire, a resident of Katuna Town Council, after lying to her that he was taking it for mating.
Captain Edward Twebaze, the OWC Coordinator in Charge of Ndorwa County West, says he received a complaint from Aheisibwe and ordered the suspect to bring back the heifer which he didn’t, prompting police action.
Elly Maate, the Police Spokesperson for Kigezi region says the suspect who was arrested on Thursday in Ryakarimira trading centre is being held at Kabale Police Station.
When asked, Turyeingana admitted to have sold the wife’s heifer at only 600,000 shillings after it several times failed to conceive. Turyeingana also says the heifer had been attacked by a strange disease.
He claims he was planning to top up and buy another heifer to replace the one he sold.
This is a second farmer in Ndorwa West County to be arrested for selling Operation Wealth Creation Heifer.
