Non-Teaching staff under their umbrella body the Public Universities Non-Teaching Staff Executive Forum (PUNTSEF) decided to lay down tools demanding payment of their salary arrears and a salary enhancement as was promised by President Museveni last year.
Makerere which was scheduled to open on Saturday August 6th would later extend reporting dates for first year students by one week which ends Saturday August 13th.
Hon. Janet Museveni, the minister of Education and Sports on Tuesday August 9th told Parliament that government had answered all the concerns of the Non-Teaching staff and that the strike would be called off by Thursday.
Meanwhile, students who had reported already have vowed to join the non-teaching staff on Monday in protest against the extension.
