Amb. Richard Kabonero Tumusiime, the new High Commissioner of Uganda to Tanzania today Tuesday 1 August 2017 presented his Letters of Credence to President John Joseph Pombe Magufuli.
The function was held at State House, Dar-es-Salaam.
Magufuli welcomed Amb. Kabonero to Tanzania and congratulated him upon his new appointment.
The President further informed Kabonero that he has an “excellent working relationship” with President Museveni who also “studied and lived in Tanzania” for many years.
Kabonero was until recently Uganda’s envoy to Rwanda where he was praised to boosting bilateral and trade ties between Kigali and Kampala.
Magufuli underscored the importance of continued strengthening of the excellent bilateral relations between Tanzania and Uganda.
He also emphasized the fact that Tanzanians and Ugandans are “blood brothers” with the two countries having shed blood for each other.
The President therefore noted that the High Commissioner is indeed at home and should feel free to contact him on any matter of mutual interests to the bilateral relations between Tanzania and Uganda.
The President also said Amb. Kabonero has arrived at the right time when President Museveni and himself are set to launch the important project for the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) from Hoima in Uganda to Tanga Port in Tanzania which is scheduled to take place in Tanga, Tanzani on 5th August 2017.
The 1,400km (800 miles) pipeline will connect Uganda’s the western oil fields with Tanzania’s port of Tanga and is expected to cost about $4bn (£2.8bn) and create about 15,000 jobs.
Officials said the project is a lucid demonstration of the good cooperation between Uganda and Tanzania and will go a long way in providing impetus to economic growth of the two countries.
On his part, Amb. Kabonero, appreciated President Magufuli for welcoming him to the country and said he looked forward to “working very constructively with him to advance the good relations that exist between Uganda and Tanzania.”
Ambassador Kabonero who arrived in Dar-es-Salaam on Monday 31August 2017 and was accompanied by Mr. Oscar J. Edule/Counsellor and Ms. Janat Najjuma/Third Secretary, both officials of Uganda High Commission in Dar-es-Salaam, was received at State House by the State House Comptroller in colorful ceremony.
