“First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar has dismissed Taban Deng Gai from the SPLM/A (IO). He has also withdrawn and recalled him from minister of Mining,” the brief statement said.

The development came only hours after it emerged that Gen. Taban and his followers had resolved that Dr. Machar, who has been missing for the last two weeks, should be replaced.

ChimpReports published a story last evening that Gen. Taban had accepted to assume Machar’s responsibility as the First Vice President.

Machar on Friday issued an order to all the members of his group and military units to cut off communication with Gen. Taban.

“First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan, Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/SPLA-IO), His Excellency, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, has  directed all SPLA-IO commanders and units to cut off communication with Mining Minister, General Taban Deng Gai, and few individuals who are with him,” part of the issued yesterday statement read.

The same statement stressed that there is a conspiracy to destabilize the unity government in which Taban is conduit and also openly mentioned president Kiir as being behind the plot.

“Gen. Taban and friends are behind a conspiracy engineered by President Sava Kiir’s faction to divide the PLM/SPLA (IO), and to dismantle the August 2015 peace agreement using them. Dr. Riek Machar has already sent out the message to all units in the country.”

ChimpReports understand Kiir’s allies have been in talks with Gen. Taban and his friends in the SPLA-IO to find Machar’s replacement.

Machar went into hiding since the beginning of the current wave of conflict. He fled from home on 9th July when his home was bombed in exchange of fire between opposition forces and those in government.
