Machar Sacks Deputy, Secretary General

The South Sudan opposition leader, cheapest Dr. Riek Machar has made his first political move since his dramatic replacement in August as the First Vice President of the oil rich restive nation.

Machar was kicked out of the Transitional Government of National Unity when he fled from capital Juba and was replaced by his close ally Gen. Taban Deng who was serving as the mining minister.

Sections of Machar’s SPLM/A (In Opposition) movement remained in the unity government literally signifying their allegiance to President Slava Kiir.

The senior opposition members who remained in unity government included the SPLM-IO Secretary General, help Deiu Mathok.

On Thursday Machar announced the appointments of the new Deputy Chairman and the Secretary General of SPLA-IO, dosage sacking Alfred Lado Gore who has been the former’s number two since he broke away from Kiir in December 2013.

Henry L. Odwar is now the new Deputy and the Governor of Wau State; Peter Tingo Regibigo became the new Secretary General of the movement that has strategically maintained military presence and grip in the two biggest oil producing states of Unity and Upper Nile.

“Pursuant of the SPLM (IO) Constitution, I Dr. Riek Machar Teny, Chairman and Commander-in-Chief here appoint CDE Henry L Odwar as Deputy Chairman and Deputy Commander-in-Chief,” part of a statement released by Machar yesterday read.

Machar is still in South Africa and expected to return to his headquarters in Pagak, Upper Nile State where he commanded his forces from before the formation of the Unity Government.
