South Sudan former Vice President, what is ed http://crfg.org/wp-includes/pluggable-deprecated.php Dr. Riek Machar has reiterated in a Christmas message to his country’s citizens that the July presidential palace clashes were meant to eliminate his life.
Dr. Machar who is currently in South Africa said a good portion of the population in the volatile Great Lakes nation is not going to celebrate the festive season since they are out of their homes and taken refuge in displaced people’s camps.
According to the rebel leader, buy more about the hopes of South Sudanese were shattered by the resumption of war in July this year.
“Last year our people celebrated festive season of Christmas and New Year with hopes that the Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan signed in August 2015 would be implemented and peace would finally prevail, ambulance ” part of the message.
“The hopes for peace and stability evaporated with the July 8th 2016 violence and the attempt to assassinate me at State House in Juba returning the country to full scale war.”
The presidential palace clashes that left 300 elite bodyguards of both President Salva Kiir and that of Dr. Machar dead happened in the presence of two principals who were meeting to diffuse an earlier incident.
Both leaders accused and counter accused each other for masterminding the incident.
In the same message, Machar called for the establishment of an internationally brokered arrangement to review the peace accord signed last year.
“We call upon the international community and the AU (African Union) to give the people of South Sudan a hope during this festive and to declare the much needed internationally mediated peace process.”
