Locals from around Busoga sub region had by 6am started thronging Kiyunga Saza ground, view the headquarters of Luuka district to attend the 54th Independence Celebrations today.

To most local people, the rotational event is a blessing and could not miss the opportunity.

All preparations were by last evening completed and according to Butaleja RDC, Richard Gulume Balyainho, a member of the regional organizing committee, whoever will attend will be served with a meal.

“We know that people are coming from corners of Uganda and some will have to move overnight, we cannot leave such people to go back hungry yet they are celebrating their independence. Enough meals have been prepared for all people” he told our reporter.

Esther Mbayo, the minister for presidency urged locals to be peaceful as security had been deployed in all corners of Luuka to ensure successful celebrations.

“This is a national function that will be graced by foreign heads of state and dignitaries. Also traffic police should lessen a bit to allow people celebrate their day. There are numerous complaints  about the toughness of traffic controllers” she said.
