Kampala city Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has called upon all Ugandans to pray for the country especially as they are sacrificing animals on this Eid Day so that Allah may save it from the problems it’s currently facing.
Speaking at the sidelines Eid Celebrations held at Prince Kassim Nakibinge’s home in Kibuli Lukwago pointed out the example of the new amendments which the government wants to make in the KCCA Act.
The reforms he said are not being done in good faith but are aimed at depriving people of their constitutional right of electing their leaders at various levels.
Lukwago says that despite of the fact that the political leaders of the city are willing to work hand in hand with the technical section; government has gone ahead to describe them as uncooperative people among the public.
“This is not the right time to bring such an amendment which is aimed at entrenching the law by making the Minister of Kampala the political head of Kampala. This will be like a guarantee for Betty (Kamya) to campaign for Kisanja Hakuna Muchezo as she is already doing”
Lukwago adds that he and the opposition will do whatever is possible to ensure that people’s democratic rights are protected and that the parliament doesn’t make those unlawful amendments in the law governing the city.
“Those amendments are aimed at creating more fighting in Kampala Capital City Authority”
