LC Chairperson Gets 8 Years for Murder

High court in Kabale has sentenced four people including the Kiyungusi cell LC1 chairperson and her defense secretary to 8 and 10 years in prison respectively over a murder in 2012.

Court presided  over by Justice Moses Kawuma Kazibwe heard from the prosecution led by the Kabale state attorney  Batson Baguma, click  that Edisa Muheirwe, view the Kiyungusi cell LC1 chairperson in upper Bugongi Kabale  Municipality, Tobias Bagarukayo  the defense secretary,  Tobia Musekura  and  Gilbert Katureebe,  contrary to the Penal Code Acts caused the death  of one Jude Ngabirano whom they were accusing if stealing Muheirwe’s cow .

Prosecution further told court that after beating him up, Ngabirano’s body was drugged into a stream while naked and that they tagged a rosary on his private parts.

Justice Kazibwe deduced that the evidence that was brought on court by the prosecution was sufficient to implicate the four in the murder.

While delivering his judgment, Justice Kazibwe observed that Muheirwe as the LC1 chairperson and Bagarukayo the defense secretary should have used their own offices and police to handle their grievances with the deceased.

He thus sentenced chairperson Muheirwe to eight years in prison, noting that even though she never participated directly in the beating, she was an accomplice.

She  is to serve three and a half years as she has been on remand for  four years and a half while  other were sentenced to 10  years in prison.
