The members of Lango Parliamentary Group have appealed to traders in Lira to suspend the strike planned for Friday and wait for the outcome of high level engagements in Kampala.
The 21 MPs converged at Parliament for an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday to look into the challenges facing traders mainly in Lira municipality which is the sub-region’s capital.

In the meeting the MPs resolved that the tomorrows strike be called off and the legislators are to meet the Minister of Trade, Industries and Cooperatives, Mrs. Amelia Kyambadde today Thursday with her technical team to forge a way forward into the traders’ grievances.
“We unanimously resolved that the Friday strike by our business men and women should be called off for now. We have also decided to meet the minister of Trade and quickly sought for solutions,” Amoru said.
Lango MPs are also expected to take Amelia to Lira around 25th and 26th to directly listen to traders. ChimpReports understands the Lira business crisis has been going on for months and several strikes have been planned and aborted.
The local traders are against giants like Mukwano and Indian community who they claim sell to them goods in wholesale for retail, but the moment the traders return to their small markets, they find the same manufacturers also retailing or vending at much lower and unfair price.
