According to the minister for security and protocol in the kingdom Moses Balidawa Ngobi, the Kyabazinga who is currently residing in a private place in Iganga arrived in Kigulu on Thursday and spent the night in there.

“He wanted to give enough time to his people in this chiefdom by associating, identifying, touring and sharing with them about cultural, social and economic development. He will throughout Friday tour a number of development projects before holding lengthy and exhaustive bilateral talks with his brother, the hereditary chief of Kigulu, Patrick Izimba Ggologolo” Balidawa said.

The Kyabazinga will then on Saturday preside over the opening of Busoga Masaza cup tournament at Iganga Saza ground in Iganga town with Kigulu chiefdom verse Bugweri chiefdom.

Amin Bbosa, the minister for sports has revealed that the kingdom was able to solicit the required Shillings 50 million for the inaugural Obwakyabazinga bwa Busoga masaza Cup scheduled and therefore set for the event.

According to Bbosa, the money will be used to facilitate match officials, buy medals, trophies and shields for the winning teams and also other prizes like footballs, jerseys and boots.

He says that all the eleven chiefdoms that comprise Busoga Kingdom have already registered and expressed readiness to participate in the league that will be run on a home and away basis under the rule of the Federation of Uganda Football Association-FUFA.

Bbosa reiterated that players in the Uganda Premier League are not eligible to play in the tournament since it is aimed at exposing young and unexploited football talents in Busoga kingdom.

“National prayers can only offer technical guidance to teams from their respective chiefdoms but will not actively participate” he noted.

Bugabula County has presented three teams from Buzaaya, Bugabula and Budiope political counties. Other teams will come from Bulamogi, Kigulu, Busiki, Luuka, Butembe, Bukhooli, Bunha, Bunyole, Bukono and Bugweri County.

Andrew Ntange, the spokesperson/Information Minister Busoga Kingdom, says the main objective of the tournament is to identify and develop indigenous talents from the kingdom.

“Although Busoga kingdom has raised a lot of talent for top teams and Uganda Cranes, most of the players are not indigenous Basoga. That is why the subjects of the kingdom have welcomed the introduction of Busoga masaza Cup” he added.

Gaster Bamwange, a resident of Ndalike in Namwendwa sub county, Kamuli district is optimistic that the tournament will help in uniting all people in Busoga who have for long not had any single activities that brings various people together, apart from bickering.

“The tournament will also open space for identification of rural talents to help Uganda that has for long struggled but failed to advance in football because managers and leaders only rely on urban based players sidelining and or marginalizing rural talents that are not given chance to expose their abilities” he added.

The minister for tourism, Hellenah Olga Namutamba says this is another opportunity to showcase that Busoga exists with big potential in sports, and it’s more of tourism.

“Communities around playgrounds where the matches will be played from should exploit the advantages of mammoth crowds that will be gathering to watch the matches and earn money” she said

There are however rumours that the defiant Bulamogi chiefdom may opt out of the event claiming they don’t recognize it’s organizers.

Bulamogi chiefdom has remained parallel to the activities of Obwa Kyabazinga saying they recognize their chief Edward Columbus Wambuzi, son to the late Henry Waako Wambuzi as the right Kyabazinga.
