Besigye was arrested from Jinja Road in Kampala where he was leading a procession of hundreds of supporters.
This came against the backdrop of Police chief Gen Kale Kayihura’s threats he would not allow any “lawlessness in the city.”
Police maintain processions in the city disrupt business and traffic which usually lead to destruction of property.
But opposition activists say such rules are aimed at curtailing opposition from enjoying its civil liberties such as right of assembly.
At Kiira Station, http://cides.med.up.pt/templates/yoo_revista/warp/helpers/useragent.php police formed a security perimeter to block Besigye’s supporters from accessing the facility.
Police are yet to speak out on the arrest.
Youthful FDC supporters have since gathered at the station with some demonstrating their acrobatic skills.
