“The People’s president has arrived at Statehouse Kasangati,” said FDC official Moses Byamugisha.

The opposition had hoped to use Besigye’s arrival to reenergize their local support base by lining along Entebbe highway to welcome him.

Police and military forces staged roadblocks along the busy highway, carrying out checks as a preventive measure.

Journalists and opposition bigwigs were denied access of the VIP Lounge at the Airport where Besigye was expected to add a press conference.

A controversial figure, Besigye travelled from London last night through Kenya before connecting to Entebbe Airport.

He spent over a month meeting foreign supporters in Europe and United States, assuring them of his strong commitment to the dismantling of president Museveni’s government.

But FDC’s determination to popularize Besigye return, according to insiders, is part of a bigger preparation for parallel political activities during the Independence Day Celebrations.

According to Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, opposition will hold a series of activities including rallies in different parts of Kampala starting October 7.

After losing the 2016 presidential elections to President Museveni, FDC are keen on keeping party structures active in what appears a move to keep the government on its toes till the next elections in 2021.
