Kisoro Municipality Chokes on Garbage

Captain Byarugaba was today released from Kigo Prisons after being detained for 13 years.

He was arrested in 2003 in Ituri forests in neighboring DRC after according to prosecution; he was found recruiting fighters to join in the struggle to overthrow the current NRM regime.

Later, approved some of the PRA suspects who were arrested together with Byarugaba applied for and were granted amnesty but the retired captain refused the offer.

In March this year, he was found guilty of treason by the Makindye General Court Martial before being sentenced to Luzira prison.

Later in August, the General Court Martial of Appeal revised the jail term for the rebel convict after he challenged the one year sentence he was handed in March.

Byarugaba, who has maintained strong ties with the opposition FDC’s Col Kizza Besigye, was today picked from Kigo Prision and returned home.

According to party officials, he was picked by the FDC Electoral Commission boss Michael Kabaziguruka.

During his detention, Capt Byarugaba’s lost his son Dan Muwonge who was knocked dead by a speeding car.

 
Traders in Kisoro Municipality are in fear of a major epidemic outbreak over the unattended garbage collection centers that are in a bad condition.

Kisoro Municipality has only five garbage skips which residents say are overstretched.

Traders along Garage Street in the Municipality noted yesterday that they were starting to lose their customers due to the unbearable stench from the garbage pile.
