Police in Mbarara has recovered the body of 45 year old man who was murdered in cold blood on New Year’s Day.
Isaac Atwine, a resident of Rwemirinzi cell Katete ward in Nyamitanga division in Mbarara municipality was slaughtered on January 1st by unknown assailants.
Police says the deceased had gone to nearby Katete trading center to buy drinks where assailants hacked him to death.
Atwine was the Community Development Officer (CDO) of Kashongi Sub County in Kiruhura district.
Rwizi region spokesperson Ibin Ssenkumbi said he was killed from a black spot in Katete and his body was taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital for postmortem.
But other than the gruesome murder, Senkumbi described the rest of the new year celebrations in Mbarara as peaceful.
Only 100 people he said were arrested for minor offenses.
“We only registered 2 serious accidents caused by drunk driving in Mbarara and on the Ntungamo-Kabale road where 5 people died on spot but other cases were minor in the Christmas and New Year celebrations,” said Ssenkumbi
