Having won none of their league games played in Bugembe in their first round of the 2016-2017 Uganda Premier League, Kirinya Jinja SSS left the stadium last year to play in Kakindu where they had success, but the club surprisingly will make a U-turn to a barren ‘Kyabazinga’ Stadium in Bugembe.

Speaking with ChimpReports about the matter, the club’s Spokesperson (Media Liason Officer) Paul Kulumba confirmed the movement.

“We are going to play in Bugembe stadium next season,” Started Kulumba. “There are two teams in Jinja that play in the top flight; it does not carry any sense for two teams to play in Kakindu when there is an unoccupied ground in Bugembe.”

Kulumba who added that the club is now trying to build a strong fan base and the shift was necessary, said that the new ground is ready.

“We left Bugembe initially because the federation had banned it deeming its surface unplayable as it had no grass. Now the grass has grown and the Stadium is a virgin place right now. People in Bugembe right now love football and are more passionate than those in Jinja Town.”

Kirinya Jinja will be playing at Bugembe in the league for the second time, a place where they never won a single league match, and many fans had called the ground cursed.

“We never won any single game in Bugembe; yes that is a fact, but the team by then was still lacking. When we went to Kakindu in the second round, we had acquired some players upfront like George Ssenkaaba who finished as our topscorer and Isaac Ntege. If we had them earlier, we would have won games there too,” Kulumba elaborated.

On whether the Club will construct its own stadium soon, Kulumba maintains: “The management led by the Club president, Madam Dianah Nyago has those future plans already, it may not come now, or 3-4 years from now, but the club will construct its own stadium in the few coming years.”

Kirinya who lost to KCCA FC in Lugogo in a recent preseason friendly will play Agape School team this week.

“We will play Agape schools team on Thursday; they have just entered the big league and have passed through the same ranks like our team. They will travel from Namutamba to Jinja SS where the friendly has been scheduled,” confirmed Kulumba.
