Police rearrest King Charles Mumbere at the Jinja High Court on Friday

Police have rearrested the King of Rwenzururu Charles Wesley Mumbere, no rx only moments after he was released by the Jinja High Court.

Mumbere was bundled in a police van outside  the court and driven away to an unknown place.

The King had earlier this afternoon been released on a Shs 100million non cash bond by Jinja Court Judge Eva Luswata, who downplayed assertions by the Prosecution that Mumbere was a high risk if let go.

Upon release, the King refused to leave court premises saying that he feared for his life.

Efforts by his brother Christopher Kibanzaga to convince him to leave fell on deaf ears.

“Even if it is 2 weeks I will stay here, “Mumbere said.

The King’s subjects including most of the MPs from the Kingdom camped at the court premises,  surrounding their king.

Meanwhile after almost 2 hours, Mumbere agreed to be chauffeured out of court premises.

However, as soon as the vehicle moved out, the Kiira Region Deputy RPC Onesmus Mwesigwa ordered him out of the vehicle before putting him in the waiting police van.

Police spokesperson, Andrew Felix Kaweesi while speaking to a city radio station in the evening, said Mumbere was arrested becuase he faces new murder charges and other related criminal charges in connection to Kasese Violence

He said the Omusinga is being kept in an unnamed police station in Jinja but sources say he is detained at Nalunfenya.
