Kiir Narrates to Museveni, Hailemariam How Machar Forces attacked Presidential Palace

The South Sudan President Salva Kiir has written to his counterparts in the region detailing how the horrible events that unfolded at his palace instantly killing 300 members of special force happened.

A letter dated July 12th that ChimpReports has obtained a copy, this recounted starting from Thursday last week when the first incident happened between his forces and those of his equally armed vice Dr. Riek Machar.

According to the letter addressed to the IGAD Chairman IGAD, Hailemariam Desalegn who is also the Prime Minister of Ethiopia and copied to Ugandan President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Machar’s forces were squarely behind the developments that he described as

“The incident started when a force from the headquarters of the 1st Vice President commanded by Lt. Col. David Rieu attacked a checkpoint at Gudelle area in Juba. The checkpoint was manned by an integrated force from the SPLA and other organized forces and it resulted into the death of 4 soldiers and a medical doctor,” part of the letter said.

Kiir added that he called Machar for a meeting on the next day, 8th July to resolve the earlier occurrence.

The president revealed that Machar uncharacteristically arrived at State House with a gigantic heavily armed force in 21 vehicles and a decoy ambulance stuffed with extra deadly weapons.

“The 1st Vice President arrived to the Presidential Palace, escorted by a huge force in 21 mounted vehicles accompanied by an ambulance in which firearms were concealed. The deployment of this force in and around the Presidential Palace created tension among the forces.”

Kiir stressed that Lt. Col. Rieu who allegedly commanded the Thursday 7th attack on SPLA again appeared at the J1 gate provoking a situation and subsequently shot dead a presidential guard.

“At about 5:15 pm Lt. Col. David Rieu, the same officer responsible for the events of 7th July 2016 highlighted above, even though he was not a member of the escort team of the 1st Vice President, arrived at the palace, provoked a situation and immediately shot dead one guard.”

The appearance and the provocation of Machar’s commander according to Kiir instigated the horrible gunfire that killed hundreds.

“The unfortunate situation erupted into crossfire that led to the loss of over three hundred (300) soldiers in total. The force of the 1st Vice President was repulsed.”
