Kibaale: Inmate Dies After Hunger Strike

A 40 year old man who was last week charged and remanded to Mambungu Government Prison in Kibaale District, pharm has died at Kibaale Health Center IV after going on a hunger strike while in the cell.

Christopher Sande, this a resident of Kanyangoma Village in Kagadi sub-county Kibaale District was remanded on allegations that he defiled his seven year old daughter and infected her with HIV/AIDS.

He was last week remanded by Kagadi grade one Magistrate Simon Toloko to Mambugu government prison and later transferred to Kibaale Prison.

Inside the prison cell according to officials, Sande went on a hunger strike and refused to take his ARVs, and his health deteriorated rapidly.

He eventually fainted and was rushed to Kibaale Health Center IV where he died over the weekend.

Some of his inmates told officials that the deceased kept saying that he knew his punishment would be a painful death and that he rather took his life beforehand.

His daughter, the victim who he allegedly defiled multiple times is still receiving treatment and improving steadily.

The deceased divorced his wife early this year and remained with his seven year old daughter.
