The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has Thursday confirmed that the senior and Kagame club championships will be held November and December in Kenya respectively.
The news was revealed on Thursday morning by the council’s secretary general Nicholas Muaonye flanked by the executive members in a press conference held in Nairobi Kenya.
“We had discussions and agreed with FKF President Nicholas Mwendwa that Kenya is capable where they agreed that Kenya will host the CECAFA Kagame cup. I believe Kenya will organize a good tournament compared to 2013 which was shambolic.”
The regional tourney was initially scheduled to be hosted in Tanzania around June/July but the TFF pulled out towards the last moments leaving a cloud of uncertainty.
Musonye also noted that dates for both championships will be communicated at a later date pending consultations with the Kenya FA and to be sponsors.
Uganda Cranes are the defending champions after lifting the trophy last year in Ethiopia.
Vipers Sports Club will represent the country in the Kagame club cup by virtue of winning the 2014/15 Uganda premier league season. Defending champions KCCA FC will get a chance next year.
Azam FC from Tanzania are the holding cup winners after emerging best last year in the tourney held in Dar Es Salaam.
Uganda will host the inaugural women cup starting this Sunday at the Fufa technical centre in Njeru near Jinja.
