The Chinese Company hired to manufacture dozens of trains for Kenya’s “most ambitious project” the Standard Gauge Railway; has handed some of the locomotives to Kenyan authorities.

The order comprised of 43 DF8B freight locomotives, five DF11 passenger locomotives, and eight DF7G shutters.
CRRC this weekend handed some of the completed locomotives to a delegation from Nairobi. The locomotives will be for use on the 472km Mombasa – Nairobi standard-gauge line, which is due to open in June 2017.
At the event, 2 passenger locomotives were handed to the Kenyan authorities as well as 4 freight locomotives according to Kenyan Media.
The Standard Railway which Kenya has been tracking faster than anybody else in the region will link the Kenyan port city of Mombasa with Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan and is hoped to rejuvenate the existing but outdated East Africa railway system.
