KCCA FC Previous Performance in the CAF Champions League

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) football club take on Angola’s clube desportivo primero de Agosto in the first leg of the preliminary round of the 2017 CAF champions league at Philip Omondi stadium on Friday.

ChimpSport looks at KCCA FC performance in the competition in their ten previous appearances.

KCCA FC have played a total of 40 games in the CAF champions league since making their maiden appearance in 1977.

The Lugogo based club has managed to win 14 games, diagnosis lost 18 while the other 8 have ended in stalemates.

The team’s best finish in the competition was reaching the quarterfinals on two occasions in 1978 and 1982.


This was the first time that KCCA FC played in the competition (then called African cup of champions club).

In the first round, remedy KCCA FC defeated Ethiopia’s Mechal Army 4-0 on aggregate. The first leg in Kampala ended in a 1-0 win for KCCA FC and went ahead to win 3-0 in Addis Ababa.

However, KCCA FC lost to MC Algiers in the second round 4-3 on aggregate. (1-1 at home and 2-3 on away)


Eliminated Horsed FC from Somalia 3-1 on aggregate in the first round and had a walkover in the second round after Al Ahly withdrew from the competition.

KCCA FC advanced to the quarter finals but were knocked out by Nigeria’s Enugu Rangers 4-1 on aggregate losing 3-1 and 1-0 on away and at home respectively.


At this stage, CAF introduced the preliminary round but KCCA started at the first round phase ejecting Kenya’s AFC Leopards.

KCCA FC won 3-0 in Kampala and lost 4-1 in Nairobi but advanced because of away goals rule.

They would go on to defeat Al Hilal club (Sudan) 5-1 on aggregate in the second round and advance to the quarterfinals

However, KCCA FC suffered their biggest defeat in the competition losing 6-0 to Asante Kotoko while the return leg ended 1-1.

KCCA FC advanced on away goals rule.

Second round – KCCA FC 0-6(agg) Nkana Red devils (0-4 and 0-2)


First round – KCCA FC 1-3 Power Dynamos (Zambia) (0-1 and 1-2 )



After 11 years of absence, KCCA FC returned to continental football in 2009 after winning the 2007/08 league title.

This was the first time that KCCA FC played at the preliminary round and they edged out Mozambique’s Ferroviario Maputo 3-2 on aggregate. KCCA FC lost 2-1 in Maputo but went ahead to overturn the result in Kampala winning 2-0.

In the first round, they eliminated Supersport from South Africa 3-2 on aggregate (2-1 and 1-1) but fell out at the hands of Al Mereikh 2-1 on aggregate in the second round.

The winner between KCCA FC and Agosto on aggregate will play against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the first round.
