Kayihura Deploys in Mityana Where Toddler Was Shot by Flying Squad Officers

Inspector General of Police Gen Edward Kale Kayihura has deployed the Police’s Operations Director Haruna Isabirye to Mityana district; to get to the bottom of a fatal shooting involving Flying Squad Police officers.

The shooting which happened Monday in Guluma village, information pills Butayunja Sub County left a three year old dead and her mother critically injured as well as another resident.

The deceased has been identified as Viola Nakawuka, her mother as Diana Nabakooza and the third victim as Ivan Kito.

The suspected shooters are police officers Sgt Patrick Ewang, Hassan Mityaba, PC Mandela Richard and PC Ivan Chamutai.

All the four are on the run according to a statement released by police on Tuesday afternoon.

These were reportedly trying to protect a local witch doctor from an angry crowd when they opened fire.

Even as the police force strains to recover from the gruesome murder of their spokesperson AIG Andrew Felix Kaweesi, the police statement stresses that all police officers must be held to high standards.

“The death and injuring of unarmed civilians are highly regrettable and will be treated with serious action,” read the statement.”

“The Flying Squad officers named were not acting officially or on official assignment. All had been withdrawn from Mityana and therefore had no business in the area.”

The statement says the IGP as such sent to operations Director to the area to investigate and hunt down the officers who are in hiding.

The police also committed to take care of the medical bills of the injured, now hospitalized at Mityana Hospital.
