The 20 people accused of masterminding the murder of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi have accused police and CMI of ‘stealing’ valuables including money while arresting them .
The group was on Thursday further remanded to Luzira prison until June 1st after the state prosecutor told court that investigations have not yet been concluded.
This time however, page they were not given chance by Nakawa grade one Magistrate Noah Ssajjabbi to air out their grievances, symptoms prompting them to turn to media cameras on their way back to jail.
“I had one million shillings with me during the arrest but up to now I can’t trace it, no rx ” Abdu Ashid Mbazira claimed.
“I hope the money is given back to me or the relatives for use.”
Other suspects also joined in saying they had money and other valuables which were taken by their captors.
Some of the relatives to the suspects also narrated how their valuables were taken by security agencies in the name of searching their homes.
“They took 6 phones belonging to my family members, cameras and money from the house,” Namwanje Ddamulira, the wife to Swaleh Ddamulira Kimuli said of the raid on their home in Namungona.
She narrated that the family lost contact with her husband on 30th March, 2 weeks after the murder of AIGP Kaweesi, after he never returned from work.
“The next time we saw him was on 2nd April as over 30 policemen surrounded our home and demanded to have it searched.”
According to the suspect’s children, over 18 police vehicles surrounded their home during the operation.
“No one including the neighbors was allowed to move. They broke doors, wardrobes and suit cases as they searched the house, “said Gertrude Namuyiga one of the relatives.
“They searched every place. Not even the ceiling and toilet were spared during the search.”
The relatives claim that during the search some of their property was taken by police and other security agencies.
This website accessed a search certificate dated April,2,2017 from Kira road police station and confirmed some of the valuables mentioned above had been recovered from Swaleh Ddamulira Kimuli’s home following a search by police.
Some of the items recovered included 2 cameras, a rain coat and phones among others.
The Police spokesperson AIGP Asan Kasingye didn’t pick our calls for a comment on these claims.
According to Namwanje Ddamulira, her husband narrated how he was tortured by security agencies while at Nalufenya and Special Investigations Division headquarters in Kireka after the arrest.
The relatives were allowed to visit the suspects while at Luzira prison.
“He told me he was blindfolded for 2 weeks and beaten daily,” Namwanje said.
“His fingers were tied with wires and he was beaten severally on the ankles and other body parts.”
She narrated that her husband was later taken to Kireka were he was again tortured.
“He couldn’t walk .Up to now; his left side of the body is still paralyzed and can’t do laundry for himself while at Luzira, “Ddamulira’s wife narrated, adding that it’s colleagues who wash for him due to the paralysis.
On the Kamwenge town council mayor, Godfrey Byamukama, she said her husband narrated that everyone at Nalufenya feared Byamukama wouldn’t survive for a day due to the torture.
“He told me that the Kamwenge mayor couldn’t talk and they feared he would die the following day.”
The group charged with masterminding the killing of Kaweesi include Abdu Ashid Mbazira , Higenyi Aramazan Noordin alias Abdallahzack, Mugerwa Yusuf alias Wilson, Bruhan Balyejusa alias Masiga Jimmy Oguttu, Maganda Umar Aramathan, Ahamad Senfuka Shaban alias Sheik Tawheed, Hassan Tumusiime, Ibrahim Kissa alias Colonel Ibra, Osman Mohammed Omarete alias Hirya, Magamabo Hamidu alias Kan Yam, Abdu Majid Ojerere, Kyambadde Joshua Magezi alias Abdu Rahamanand and Sheik Musa Ntende Abubakar.
