Police spokesperson AIGP Asan Kasingye has revealed Monday morning hat police is yet to recover the bodies of 3 people who drowned at Karuma Bridge in Nwoya district last week.
On Friday a few minutes to 8 Pm, a truck carrying dried cassava from Paidha to Hoima lost control and overrun the bridge, plunging into river Nile.
Addressing journalists on Monday at Naguru, Kasingye identified the 3 occupants of the Tata truck as Nelson Baraza, 45 (driver), Sam Abunya, 50, (owner of merchandise) and Arafat,25 (turn-boy).
“Since then, we have tried searching for their bodies and the truck but in vain. Both are still in the deep waters”, Kasingye told journalists during a news conference.
“The strong current could not allow our marine divers search for the bodies effectively.”
He however noted the search will continue until they are retrieved.
