Kagadi: 6 Microfinance Workers Arrested, ED Flees With 60M


Police in Kagadi District are hunting for one Henry Sseremba, purchase the head of a local microfinance institution who has allegedly disappeared with up to UGX 60 million of savings of 200 members.

Sseremba is the Executive Director of his own microfinance institution in Kagadi Town Council at Mugeny Street named “Capital Financial Services.”

On Friday morning, over 70 clients stormed the offices which had since been closed, seeking for the loans that they had been promised by Sseremba.

Upon seeing the angry clients, the workers rushed to police to save their lives from being lynched.

While speaking to Chimpreports yesterday, Mary Nyakaisiki and Alinaitwe Muhereza who were employed as cashiers revealed that they have been tapping on the members’ savings and sending it to Sseremba’s mobile phone.

Joseph Ayesiga, the acting District Police Command Kagadi District says investigations into matter are ongoing.

He added that police in Kagadi are coordinating with colleagues around the country to trace the thief and urged clients to remain calm.

Six of his employers are still detained at Kagadi police.
