Kadaga Opens Parliament Day Care Centre

The speaker of Parliament, story Rebecca Kadaga has Monday morning officially opened the day care centre at Parliament.

The centre provides space where female staff in parliament can take time off to breastfeed their babies.

This is the 2nd such facility at a Parliament after the South African Parliament.

The clerk of parliament, there Jane Kibirige said the facility was a house for the sergeant at arms under President’s office.

“It cost Shs 80,000,000 to renovate the former sergeant’s apartment into a daycare and Shs10,000,000 to equip it,” Kibirige added.

Speaking at the opening of the centre, Hon. Rebecca Kadaga urged members of staff to make use of the facility so they have no excuse to fall back on their work.

“For many years we have been giving reports why we women MPs have done to.make the environment better. Finally we have something,” she said.


There are currently 8 babies under the care of this facility.
