Sharp Football Club will represent Western region in next season’s Fufa Big league. This comes after the Kabale based side defeated Rushere FC in the promotional playoff final played at the Kyamate sports ground in Ntungamo district on Thursday.
Sharp FC who were sublime in the regular season coming through the Kigezi group unbeaten edged past Rukungiri’s Rushere FC in a closely contested final to book a berth in next season’s Big league.
Cleofas Fiat and Joram Turinawe rose to the occasion scoring a goal apiece for Sharp FC to win the final 2-1. Isma Luyombya had pulled one back for Rushere midway through the game.
The contest produced no dividends in the opening 45 minutes with the game ending in a barren stalemate at the end of first half. However, there Fiat Cleofas broke the deadlock five minutes after recess.
Rushere leveled matters 15 minutes later through skipper Isma Luyombya who converted from the spot kick after a Sharp defender had held the ball inside the forbidden area.
With the game destined for a penalty shootout, treatment forward Joram Tturinawe had other options restoring Sharp FC’s lead in the 85th minute to send the crowd into wild cheers.
To reach the final, Rushere FC had defeated Rukungiri United while Sharp FC eliminated Mbarara FC in the semifinal playoffs.
Sharp FC will now be the second team from Western region to play in next season’s Fufa Big league joining Nyamityobora FC from Mbarara. They also join Ntinda umited from Kampala region as the two teams that have won promotion to next season’s Big league.
