Kabale Strike: 3 Lecturers, 15 Students Arrested

Three lecturers and 15 students of Kabale University were yesterday  arrested by police for being the ring leaders of the violent strike that broke out at the newly nationalized university.

 The lecturers  are  Emmanuel Nkundizana, story http://davepallone.com/old/wp-includes/class-wp-session-tokens.php the chairperson for Kabale University Academic Staff, malady http://cooperatition.org/wp-admin/includes/template.php Annet Tusiime Mutatina and Sunday Idah, while the students include among others Claire Owayezu, Jimmy Kabazi ,George Kabinga, Ivan Musinguzi  and Nicholas Byonanebye were arrested  by police at the Kabale district  headquarters.

Police was Friday compelled to use teargas and live bullets to disperse the university students who were protesting lack of lectures since the opening of the semester, following a staff strike over nonpayment.

Elly Maate the Kigezi regional police spokesman confirmed and justified the arrest saying saying that the arrested were holding an illegal procession as they didn’t have permission from police.

He says that police have commenced investigations into the matter as when they are over they are to be arraigned in court and charged accordingly.

Denis Nzeirwe the Kabale deputy RDC says that they are to sit with the university administration after the students are sent home, and find a lasting solution to the impasse.
