Kabale District has launched a 1.5 billion five-year Multi-Sectoral food security and Nutrition Project, unhealthy funded by World Banks’s Global Agriculture Food security.
Kenneth Sabiti Baabo the Kabale district Education Officer says that the project is meant to deliver nutrition services at Primary School and community levels; and strengthen capacity to deliver nutritional interventions among others.
He says that the project is also aimed at supporting the Government’s efforts to link agriculture, information pills nutrition, health and education through school-based demonstration gardens, nutrition education, and small gardens in 100 primary schools in the district. Each school will get Shs. 15 million under the program.
The launch was held at Kyobugombe primary school playground in Kaharo sub county Kabale district on Wednesday.
Bridget Asinga Tumwesigye the Kabale district Vice Chairperson Presiding over the launch attributed the increasing cases of malnutrition in Kabale district to poor eating habits.
Asinga asked government to increase funding to be used in sensitizing the public on good eating habits especially in Kabale, a national food basket.
Project Nobert Tumwine an Accountant with Uganda Multi-Sectoral food security and Nutrition says that each school initially received 4,720,000 Shillings. He said that any school to benefit from the remaining money will have to account for funds they received in first phase.
