Andrew Baryayanga Aja, dosage the Kabale municipality Member of Parliament has appealed to the Church of Uganda to canonize the late Bishop Festo Kivengere, health the first native Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi as a saint.
Baryayanga says the late Bishop Kivengere deserves Sainthood considering his great work in and outside the country; preaching the gospel as well as fighting for the rights Ugandans.
The late was among the few bishops in the 1970s with Archbishop Jonan Luwum that came out to speak against the evils of the government of Idi Amin.
“I don’t know what procedures that the church follows to canonize someone a saint but I would have wished that he is also canonized a saint in the church of Uganda for the good work he did , doctor ” Said Baryayanga.
The MP made the call on Sunday while speaking to Christians of St. James Kijuguta Church of Uganda during the ceremony to mark St Mary’s day.
He asked leaders in the country to emulate Kivengere by preaching forgiveness and love which he said are now in short supply in the country.
The Diocese of Kigezi is holding a weeklong remembrance of Bishop Festo Kivengere, the celebrated father of the Eeast African Revival, who passed away 28 years ago due to leukaemia after his return from exile in Kenya in 1988.
At the same function seven women were inducted into the mothers union, and three men including MP Baryayanga were inducted in to the Fathers Union by Reverend Justus Mwesigye the Kijuguta church of Uganda parish priest.
