Kabale Hospital Interns Strike

Kabale Hospital

Patients at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital are stranded following and industrial action by up to 26 intern health workers, sale over Ministry of Health’s failure to pay their allowances.

The health interns include doctors, approved dental surgeons, pharmacists and graduate nurses who on Thursday decided to lay down their tools when government couldn’t pay their allowances for the last four months. The strike at the hospital forced hundreds of patients to seek treatment elsewhere.

One of the interns told our reporter that they are entitled to a 600,000 shillings pay per Month.

He said that a meeting between them and the hospital administrators on Wednesday afternoon at the hospital did not yield any results.

Dr. Alex Andema, the hospital director said consultations were still ongoing with Ministry of Health to ensure that the interns’ concern is addressed.

He warned however, that the striking interns ought to return to work as their issues are attended to; or vacate the interns’ hostel immediately.
