Engineer Januario Bagamuhunda the Kabale district engineer has been arrested over alleged embezzlement and abuse of office.

Bagamuhunda is being accused of misusing UGX 44 million meant for rehabilitation of ten boreholes in Rubanda East county and Kamwezi Sub County in Kabale  district.

He was Friday arrested by Kabale district officials led by the RDC, prostate Darius Nandinda, cheap his deputy Denis Nzeirwe, online principal assistant secretary, James Mugisha and police who raided his home in Makanga, central division, Kabale municipality.

In his house the officials said, up to 200 old and rusty metallic pipes were found hidden.

He also led them to Kakore in Hamurwa Sub County where they found that he had used old pipes to fix the area borehole yet he was given money to buy new equipment.

RDC Nandinda told Chimpreports that the district engineer ignored the PPDA rules and decided to work in on his own, hiring his own contractor GESES Uganda, whose work was shoddy.

“We have handed him to police to investigate and produce him in courts of law if the investigations implicate him,” said Nandinda.

Peterson Nkurunungi, the director of GESES Uganda, the company was also arrested by police. He was reportedly given 103 million shillings to repair   the Karorwa gravity flow scheme in Bukinda Sub County but it was discovered that he had used only 10 million shillings.

This is the second time the district engineer is arrested for misuse of funds.

In January 2014, Bagamuhunda was arrested for allegedly mismanaging UGX 84Million meant for Kamuserwa and Nyamukokwe Gravity Flow Schemes in Muko Sub County Kabale district.
