Over 25 motor cycles have been impounded in a joint security operation carried out on Tuesday night by police and the army in Kabale to improve transport safety in the municipality
Elly Maate the Kigezi regional Police spokesperson says the operation was as a result of the increasing crimes orchestrated on bodabodas.
“We noted from complaints that some boda-boda riders were involved in night crimes, medical ” said Maate.
He revealed that Police was unable to arrest the motorcycle riders because all of them took off whenever the police squad reached their stages.
Maate said that some of the impounded motorcycles had unclear number plates.
He said the impounded motorcycles will be returned to their owners after their riders have presented the registration details.
Recently, the Kabale district security committee resolved to have all boda-boda riders in the municipality registered so as to curb related crimes.
Maate added that this operation will continue day and night until all bodabodas are fully registered.
