Kabale: Crime Preventers Jailed for Murder

Police says crime preventers are essential in combating crimes in communities

Stanbic Bank in partnership with the Ministry of Education and sports, pharm on Wednesday launched a National School Quiz competition for schools across Uganda.

The Stanbic Bank National School Championship is aimed at improving the levels of literacy amongst students, and as well as develop their problem solving skills and boost their confidences.

The quiz, will also help students achieve higher order of thinking beyond reading for exams, encourage a competitive spirit between schools, and reward schools with the most knowledgeable students.

Speaking at the Launch of the championship in Bugolobi, Stanbic Bank head of communications, Fred Mugisha said in the next few months, a number of schools will be competing against each other.

“About 60 schools from different regions around the country have been identified for this competition,” he said, adding that the schools will nominate individuals who will be challenging each other.

According to Mugisha, the competition will not only allow students to think big, but also give them financial and life skills as well as help develop their self esteem and explore their identity.

“We are not doing this as a business but as a Corporate Social Responsibility. Through this competition, we are passing on knowledge to the students.” he added.

The competition which is due to air in two weeks will be shown on different television stations.
Two crime preventers and another person are being held by police in Kabale for alleged murder of a 27 year old man.

The accused are Jessica Hesimana, decease 36 and Gastone Byamahanga, capsule 51 both crime preventers of Kyanjari cell, for sale Kara Muko Sub county.

Jaclyn Kanana, 35 a business woman in Kyanjari trading center hailing from Kagogo cell, Ikumba sub county is also implicated in this case.

It is alleged that on Sunday September 27 at around 8pm, while at Kyanjari trading center, the trio murdered Wilson Karuru, a resident of Kagogo cell Ikumba Sub County.

The suspects claim that the deceased attempted to rape Hesimana at her place of work, who made an alarm that attracted residents.

The trio allegedly descended on the Karuru in fracas and beat him to comma. He breathed his last while being rushed to Hamurwa Health Centre IV.

The deceased’s relatives on Monday attacked the residences of Hesimana, and Byamahanga and destroyed their property including 4 houses, 8 cows and 15 goats among others in revenge.
