Israel PM Netanyahu Arrives in Uganda

Netanyahu and his wife Sarah Netanyahu touched Ugandan soil aboard a boeing 767 plane

The Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu has Monday afternoon arrived at Entebbe International airport to commemorate 40 years since the raid on the airport during Amin’s regime.

He was welcomed with a gun salute in remembrance of the lives of the soldiers that perished during the 1976 raid of Israel Commandos on Entebbe airport.

On July 4th 1976, an Air France plane enroute from Israel to France was hijacked by pro –Palestinian militants before forcing it to land at Entebbe airport with over 250 passengers on board prompting Israel to send in their commandos to rescue them.

In the raid, Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Brother Yoni Netanyahu who was the commanding officer was killed along with 43 Ugandan soldiers.

During his visit, the Prime Minister is expected to meet presidents from all over the region to discuss issues to do with counter terrorism.
