The prime suspect in the case of sim boxing against Airtel Uganda, treatment Geoffrey Kasule has been convicted and remanded to Luzira prison.
Kasule who was arrested alongside three others appeared before the Buganda Road Utilities and Communications Division which was gazetted to handle such cases.
SIM Box fraud is where an operator routes international calls and connects the call as local traffic.
It’s done using a device known as the SIM box.
The device allows the operator to bypass international rates and often undercut prices charged by local mobile network operators.
Kasule was charged with unauthorized use or interception of computer service contrary to section 15 of the Computer Misuse Act.
He was also charged with electronic fraud contrary to section 19 of the Computer Misuse Act, sick and operation of a telecommunications system without a license contrary to section 78&22 of the UCC Act.
He pleaded guilty to all the three charges.
Kasule who was the mastermind has since been sent to Luzira and is expected to appear back in court on June 16th for sentencing.
His other counterparts have been released on bail.
