Ssemazzi Does It For Villa
Arthur Semazzi struck a late winner to earn SC Villa all three points as they beat Masaka 3-2 in their Bell Super League opener at Namboole on Friday.
The offseason signing from Police was atoning for his first half missed penalty when goalkeeper Francis Kikonyogo dived the right way.
Paul Musamali had been felled in area in the 13th minute before Semazzi squandered his kick.
But when Musamali was brought down again seven minutes later, Dalous Kiwalabye sent Kikonyogo the wrong way as his dispatch hit the roof of the net for Mike Mutebi’s side to open scoring.
Villa went into the break leading but Mike Kamya pulled Masaka level on 58 minutes before Sowed Makumbi put the upcountry side ahead for the first time in the game four minutes later.
But Allan Kiiza, an acquisition from relegated Utoda, levelled for Villa with a scorcher in the 79th minute before Semazzi finally put his name on the scoresheet with four minutes left on the clock.
Villa and Maroons, who beat champions Express 2-1 in the earlier game, top standings on three points each after two games of the league played.
