Walusimbi Confident of Beating Zambia

Uganda leftback Godfrey Walusimbi is confident the Cranes will be able to handle the pressure when they take on Zambia on October 13.

The African champions carry a 1-0 advantage to Namboole having beaten Uganda by a solitary strike in Ndola at the weekend to set one foot at next year’s Nations Cup in South Africa.

But having witnessed and even experienced the Cranes crack in the goalless draw against Kenya when they needed just one goal against to qualify for Gabon and Equatorial Guinea last October, Walusimbi says they have learnt lessons.

“The pressure is not as much as last year,” said the defender. “Against Kenya, everyone assumed it was a done deal.

“That is why many people were disappointed. The whole country knew we had to qualify because they were very certain we would defeat Kenya at home.”

Walusimbi added: “We are playing the continent’s number one side and are a goal down from the first leg.

“So Zambia are not a simple team and the fans will know it. We are confident. But not as overconfident as in the match against Kenya in our last truly pressure game. We will handle the weight of expectations.”

Bobby Williamson’s Cranes need to beat Herve Renard’s Chipolopolo by a two-goal margin to be sure of qualification.

A 1-0 normal time scoreline for Cranes could see the two sides decide the ticket to South Africa on penalty shootouts.
