The Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) on Monday voted Uganda Cranes and Yanga FC striker Hamis “Diego” Kiiza, the sports personality for the month of July.
Diego was voted the best following his impressive displays in the recently concluded Cecafa club Championships where his six goals didn’t only help Yanga defend the championship but also won him the golden boot.
The former Nalubaale FC and URA FC forward got 520 points, beating his nearest rival Julius Ogwang by 100 points.
Ogwang got 420 points as recognition for his impressive performance in the African U-20 Youth Championship qualifier against Ghana’s Black Satellites late last month in which he scored two goals at Nakivubo stadium.
In third place came volley ball star Lawrence Yakan who steered his club Sport-S to the men’s 2012 KAVC International Volleyball Championships title.
The Algerian based star that also had stints in Rwanda and Egypt put up brilliant performance that saw him bag the accolade for the best attacker after he contributed 47 out of the 97 points that handed them the trophy.
He garnered 415 points.
