Mukono Hospital Doctor Arrested For Asking Expectant Mother Shs200, 000
Dr. Daniel Segirinya of Mukono Hospital has been detained at Kampala Central Police Station for reportedly asking for Shs200, 000 from a woman who had come to give birth last Saturday.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police publicist, Ibin Ssenkumbi, a one Christine Awiino was whimpering in excruciating labour pain when Segirinya insisted that without money she would not receive any help.
“After failing to raise this money, Awiino was taken to Lugazi Hospital but in critical conditions and this is where she delivered her baby from,” says Ssenkumbi.
“This is a government Health Center, so it was illegal to ask for money so as to extend service to whoever needed it.”
Ssenkumbi says the doctor, who is detained, is likely to face charges of neglect of duty and bribery.
