The weapon was recovered, according to deputy police publicist Emilian Kayima.
Other goodies estimated at Shs15m were stolen as well.
Chimp Corps have been told that the unidentified guard first put supermarket employees at gunpoint before walking away with the huge sum of money.
Kayima says investigations into the incident are underway.
Police have in the past appealed to owners of private security firms to increase salaries for their employees in a bid to curb such theft-related cases.
