Police: Iron Bar Hit-men Now Lure Victims Using Women
7 suspected thugs have been arrested in connection with robbery and a spate of murders that have recently rocked Kampala.
They are believed to have been terrorizing residents of Kitintale, Nakawa Division, Kampala and other neighbouring areas.
Police have identified the leader of the gang as Solomon Kamali.
Others are Jackson Agaba, Ivan Bogerere and Johnson Bogoti. Police told Chimp Corps the suspects have been trapping their victims using women as baits.
“Solomon and his group have been sending two ladies identified as Jackie Babirye and Irene Nakitto to night clubs, bars and pubs and hotels to snatch phones, laptops and money purses from clients. So if you run after these girls you end up in these criminals’ trap. They just kill you and take away other valuables,” said Kampala Police spokesperson Ibin Ssenkumbi.
After getting the clue, detectives laid in a trap at Hahi Restaurant thus capturing the suspects.
The criminals thought they had netted a helpless man only to be arrested on gunpoint.
“We have discovered these goons have been going under intensive training on how to use the iron bars and we found them to be physically fit. They even tried to resist physically arrest but we overpowered them,” said Ssenkumbi.
The thugs were rounded up Saturday night.
They were found in possession of dangerous weapons such as axe bombs and heavy cable wire which they had assembled to use against the victims.
Ssenkumbi said more investigations are underway to bring to book other suspects on the run.
“After the capture of high-rated city criminal Sobbie, this is also our biggest catch in just a fortnight.” Kitintale Police Post has opened up a criminal file for the suspects under number CRB858/2012.
They will be produced to court after full investigations are complete, said Ssenkumbi.
