Court Hears Besigye 'House Arrest' Application Tomorrow
Kasangati Chief Magistrate’s court will tomorrow rule on the legality of a police order under which Col. Kizza Besigye is being placed under house arrest
The hearing of the application was postponed from Monday to Thursday due to absence of the Magistrate.
Besigye’s lawyer David Mpanga says his client’s human rights are being trampled on by the State. Mpanga argues that the law based on by police to restrict Besigye’s movements is colonial.
Kampala Police spokesman Ibin Ssenkumbi says Besigye is under ‘preventive house arrest’ until the law enforcement group is convinced he won’t incite violence.
Besigye has been under house arrest at his Kasangati residence since last Tuesday. Efforts to rescue him by lawyers have hit a dead end.
