Kayihura Warns of Afghan-Imported Terrorism
Opposition is in the spot-light following accusations of indulging in terror activities with the view of destablising and subsequently ousting the government of President Yoweri Museveni.
IGP Kale Kayihura has said security is investigating reports that opposition-inclined elements have of recent been receiving specialized training in terror tactics in Afghanistan with the view of wreaking havoc in Uganda.
Kayihura was addressing press at Media Centre in Kampala when he revealed that intelligence reports indicated that some opposition diehards, after the Afghan training, were skillfully infiltrating Kampala with the view of committing heinous crimes.
He argued that this is one reason why opposition has insisted on holding political rallies in the city centre in total disregard of being a trade hub.
Kayihura says all Ugandans must be on the look out for negative elements and report them to nearest police stations or local authorities.
However, at a press conference Monday, Wafula Oguttu said Kayihura's utterances are "just rubbish which he uses as a cover to deny Ugandans freedom of speech, expression and assembly."
Terrorists struck Kampala on July 11 last year, leaving over 75 innocenct civilians dead. Two of them have since been convicted and sentenced to jail for the atrocity.
