Police Raid Makerere FDC Girl’s Room At Mid-Night
Police are now in the spotlight for raiding a female student’s room at Makerere University in the dead of the night.
Two cops, according to the victim, intended to intimidate a top FDC activist at the campus to refrain from organising a protest at Col. Kizza Besigye’s home in Kasangati where he is held under ‘preventive house arrest’.
Commonly known as FDC Preacher Doreen, the 22-year-old activist narrates the entire ordeal to our news desk in an exclusive interview.
Two police officers entered my room at exactly 12:20am of Monday. I had unknowingly opened for them thinking it was one of my neighbours knocking on the door.
It was past midnight and the hall was supposed 2 be locked to any late visitors. I identified one of them as Caesar, the O.C Makerere Police post. And the other is Ian.
None of them was dressed in uniform but I know them because they are all attached to the campus police post and have in the past crushed our peaceful demonstrations.
I don't know who showed them my room but probably being a Guild Vice President, getting my room was not a problem.
They hesitated to ask questions until I quizzed them why they had stormed my room at mid-night.
They told me they had a message from Inspector General of Police Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura. They gave me the phone to talk to him but I turned down the offer.
Caesar then told me that Kayihura was considering talking to University administration to expel me from campus if I continued ‘disorganising it’ with demonstrations.
Caesar said if a planned protest at Col. Kizza Besigye home continued, I would cease being a student at Makerere because ‘it’s a very serious matter.’
I asked them how many Students from NRM were expelled for visiting President Museveni and what makes them think everyone should support NRM.
As expected they gave me half-baked answers. I told them I cannot be moved by the cowardly intimidations and promised to continue supporting FDC come rain come shine.
I further told the cops that they were free to come and arrest me at a time of their wish as Kampala regional police boss Fred Kawesi had earlier threatened me.
NAKED
It was a very awkward hour. My friend Zuena Nakanwagi was half-naked. I was dressed in a night gown and could easily see the naked desire in the cops’ eyes. I felt humiliated.
They stayed for around fifteen minutes. Fortunately, an official attached to our hall came in and directed them to leave because it was past mid-night.
The officers were unbothered until I pressed them hard to leave because Zuena was visibly uncomfortable with the intrusion of her privacy.
As they exited, Caesar gave me a parting warning that I was in trouble. They said ‘good night’ but I never replied.
Meanwhile, Ian was enormously quiet throughout the ordeal. He later confessed he liked ‘hard ladies’ like me.
