Makerere Student Drowns In Lake Victoria
Grief has struck Makerere University following the drowning of a student in Lake Victoria during a beach bash on Sunday.
Isaac Mutekanga, a software engineering student, was swimming in the lake when a strong current swept him under.
Maureen Rugyendo, a close relative of the deceased, told Chimpreports News Desk on Monday that Mutekanga had gone to “Aero beach in Entebbe with his campus friends to have some fun.”
Rugyendo said Mutekanga was the first born of his parents and only boy of 6 children.
“He was a very intelligence boy,” recounts Rugyendo.
Rugyendo further said there would be a funeral service today 1pm at St. Augustine Chapel, Makerere.
Makerere University’s Public Relations Officer, Ritah Namisango and Maria Roselyn Muzaaki, the College of Computing and Information Sciences publicist, were not readily available for comment.
The College’s Head Corporate Relations officer Michael Niyitegeka said he was not aware about the incident.
He maintained that beach bashes are organized by students, making it hard “to account for students who were there.”
This is a developing story. More details will be posted as events unfold
