The meeting was attended by officials from the two countries that included the State Minister for International Affairs Henry Okello Oryem.

The DRC leader was in Uganda to attend a two-day Summit of the leaders of International Conference on the Great Lakes’ Region (ICGLR) that ended in Kampala yesterday.

The Kampala Summit evolved on the security situation in Eastern DRC with the aim of complete stopping of the four-month long fighting there to allow for the consolidation of peace, security and stability.

The volatile situation there has seen an upsurge of hundreds of DRC refugees that have taken shelter in Uganda.

Member countries of the ICGLR are Angola, Burundi, the Central African Republic, the DRC, Republic of Congo (Brazzaville), Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

Details of the Nakasero meeting remain scanty but it followed reports that DRC does not want Rwanda to contribute troops to an international force which will be deployed in Kivu to deal with the rebels there.

Congo maintains that Rwanda has been fomenting trouble in Eastern DRC by reinforcing M23 with equipment and recruits, allegations Kigali vehemently denies.

The Great Lakes region will soon dispatch a force of well trained combatants to engage the DRC rebels with the view to solve the security crisis in the area once and for all.
