Kirumira Arrest Takes New Twist
City tycoon Godfrey Kirumira has Friday refunded Shs190m which had been deposited on his account by a thieving public official.
The cash was supposed to be returned to the treasury after Kiruhura district fell short of utilizing it in the 2011/12 financial year.
The move followed Kirumira’s arrest and detention at the CID headquarters in Kibuli on Thursday.
The detectives had threatened to arraign the businessman in court to face charges of abetting theft of public funds.
Armed with printouts of the fraudulent transactions on his Bank of Baroda savings account, the detectives interrogated Kirumira for a marathon three hours as they reminded him that police was now tough on corruption.
Staring down on the possibility of spending some good time at Luzira Prison, Kirumira fainted.
Police medical services personnel were invited to resuscitate one of the wealthiest man in Uganda, in vain.
That’s how he was rushed to a Kampala medical facility.
However, the latest from sources at CID is that Kirumira has today returned the money which was passed through his account by an unscrupulous government official.
